Abnormal uterine bleeding (AUB) or Dysfunctional uterine bleeding (DUB) is the term referred to any excessive menstrual or erratic vaginal bleeding. The expected normal menstruation duration is cycle of 21 to 35 days in women with duration of 4 to 5 days.
When bleeding occurs outside the normal menstruation cycle or is very heavy with large or many clots or there is prolonged spotting or spotting between periods; discussion with your Gynecologist is advisable.
The probable cause of the abnormal uterine bleeding is ruled out during Well Woman Examination at our clinic:
• Hormonal imbalance due to thyroid disease, polycystic ovarian syndrome (PCOS), or the menopausal transition
• Pregnancy
• Certain medications such as birth control pills
• Infection or inflammation of the cervix or uterine lining (endometrium)

• Cancer
A comprehensive discussion on your menstrual cycles (dates, length and type of bleeding) along with your evaluation upon physical exam, blood diagnostics imaging/ ultrasound is undertaken at the clinic to determine the etiology for abnormal bleeding.
